How to Compare Handbag Supplier Quotations on the Same Basis

Compare handbag quotations by specification, quantity, development costs, packing and delivery scope rather than unit price alone.

A lower unit price does not establish a better offer when the bags, quantities or included services differ. Before comparing suppliers, put the quotations into a common structure and identify the decisions that remain open. Keep finished-stock offers separate from new-product development.

  1. 1. Start with the same product specification
  2. 2. Check the quantity basis
  3. 3. Separate one-off and recurring costs
  4. 4. Make delivery scope explicit
  5. 5. Resolve exclusions before selection

Start with the same product specification

Use the same reference version, dimensions, material, lining, hardware and branding details for each request. Ask suppliers to list deviations rather than silently quote an alternative. A different material or simpler interior may be a useful option, but it should be identified as an option and compared separately from the specified product.

Check the quantity basis

Record total pieces and pieces per style and colour. Ask whether the quoted price depends on a particular mix. A large single-colour order is not automatically equivalent to the same total spread across many variations. For stock, verify the current quantity of each selected colour instead of treating an old supplier-sheet count as availability.

Separate one-off and recurring costs

Ask which sampling, development, tooling, branding and packaging costs are included or separate. Record whether a quoted charge applies once, per design or per repeat order, based on the supplier's written explanation. Do not assume sample fees are refundable or tooling belongs to the buyer unless those arrangements have been agreed.

Make delivery scope explicit

Record currency, named delivery basis, destination, packing assumptions and quote validity. Ask what freight and destination charges are included or excluded; obtain clarification from the relevant shipping provider when needed. Do not compare a goods-only figure with a delivered total. Changes to carton size, order mix or destination can change the transport quotation.

Resolve exclusions before selection

Make a short list of missing information and send it back to each supplier. Compare only after important exclusions are answered. Keep the approved specification, price breakdown and schedule together in the order record. An attractive quotation is not a reservation of stock or a confirmed production slot until the actual order arrangements are agreed.
