Shoulder Bag Manufacturing: A Buyer's Specification Checklist
Specify shoulder-bag size, handle drop, closure, lining and finish before requesting a manufacturing quote or approving a sample.

Two shoulder bags can look similar in a front photograph and feel very different in use. A useful manufacturing brief explains what the customer carries, how the bag sits on the shoulder and which details cannot change. Begin with a catalogue reference, then record the differences you require.

Describe the intended use
State whether the bag is for everyday essentials, work or evening use. List the objects that must fit, including their dimensions if space is tight. A photograph cannot prove that a phone, purse and glasses case fit together. Ask to check the sample with representative contents, with the closure fastened rather than with the bag stretched open.
Separate body size from handle drop
Record body width, depth and height, then handle drop as a separate measurement. Specify whether width is measured at the opening or base and whether the bag is filled. A long strap and generous handle drop are not interchangeable. If wearing over a coat matters, include that use case in sample feedback rather than relying on overall height.
Make construction decisions visible
Choose the opening, pocket layout, lining and strap attachments before comparing quotations. A magnetic flap, zipped opening and open top create different products. State whether the body should hold its shape when empty. Ask the supplier to explain any reinforcement needed; the same outer material can feel different with a different backing or internal structure.
Approve connected details together
Review outer material, edge finishing, stitching and hardware as a set. A colour name does not define the metal finish or edge-paint shade. Request labelled close-ups and a physical sample where appearance matters. Record approval against a version and date so that a later revision to the strap does not accidentally replace an already approved lining.
Send a quote-ready brief
Provide the reference, required changes, estimated pieces per colour, destination and target schedule. Ask which sample, tooling, packing and shipping costs are separate.
